Weddings and events on a boat in Marbella: the complete guide

Private celebration on board a yacht in Marbella at sunset

Searching for a wedding yacht in Marbella usually starts from one very specific idea: taking the celebration out of a function room and putting it on the water. And it makes sense. Yacht hire for weddings on the Costa del Sol has stopped being a curiosity — a private boat turns any occasion into something nobody forgets, with the Golden Mile and La Concha behind you and no one else aboard but your group. This guide covers the four ways our clients actually use the boat to celebrate, which duration suits each one, and how the details get organised.

Wedding photos on board: the shoot nobody else has

By some distance the most common request in wedding season. A shoot on a boat solves the problem every Costa del Sol wedding album runs into: the backdrop. Instead of the same gardens and seafront promenades everyone else uses, you get the whole coastline from the water, clean light with no hard shadows, and a white deck that works as a natural studio.

Couples tend to slot the session into one of two windows: the morning before, with a flat sea and soft light, or the golden hour just before sunset, which is when the Golden Mile and the mountains behind it give the best frames. Two hours is plenty to get out, stop at a quiet anchorage and shoot without rushing.

You can see examples, framing ideas and how the trip is organised on our wedding photos on a yacht in Marbella page. If you have not booked a photographer yet, we can arrange one as a professional extra.

Marriage proposals: the yes in the middle of the Mediterranean

The proposal is the smallest event of the four and probably the one a boat solves best. It is private by definition, and the surprise holds itself up: "a boat trip at sunset" is a plausible enough plan that nobody suspects a thing.

The usual script is simple and it works. Leave Puerto Banús late in the afternoon, stop in a quiet cove away from the harbour traffic, have the decoration set up on board while you are out on deck, and time the moment for when the sun touches the horizon. The skipper knows the timing and positions the boat facing the sunset.

The full logistics — decoration, music, how the moment gets coordinated without it showing — are on our marriage proposal on a yacht in Marbella page. Special decoration is a €120 extra and the professional photographer is quoted separately, so the whole thing is documented without the other person catching on.

Day-after celebrations: the morning after, at sea

More and more couples book the boat for the day after the wedding, and it is an excellent idea. After months of organising and one exhausting day, a half-day trip with close family or the friends who stayed on in Marbella is the perfect way to close the weekend.

The typical format: 4 hours, midday departure, two coves for swimming, lunch on board and back mid-afternoon. No protocol, no timings, no speeches. Up to 10 of you, the boat is yours alone, and you set the tone.

It also works well as a welcome outing for guests flying in — particularly relevant if yours is a destination wedding and half the guest list is arriving from the UK a couple of days early. In a town where everyone ends up on the same terrace, a private boat stands out on its own.

Private and corporate events

The same boat that works for a wedding works for an unconventional business meeting. It is a format Marbella uses a lot: team incentives, closing a deal with an important client, or presenting something to a small group in surroundings that do the work for you.

The advantage is obvious. Ten people on a deck for four hours talk more, and better, than they would in a meeting room, and what they take away is of a different order. We go into it on corporate events on a boat in Marbella, with the formats that work best for each duration.

Which duration to choose

Also included: the paddle board, snorkelling gear, the bathing platform, light catering, water and soft drinks and a complimentary bottle of champagne on board.

Extras to dress the occasion

The boat works as it comes, but for an event it is usually worth adding something. These are the extras we offer:

How it gets organised, step by step

Booking an event is not complicated, but it does need lead time. In high season — June to September — Saturday afternoons and sunset slots go weeks ahead, and if your date is tied to a wedding there is no plan B.

The process: tell us what you are celebrating, how many of you there are and the date you have in mind; we confirm availability and a fixed quote in under 2 hours; and from there we adjust the route, the departure time and the extras. On the day, all you have to do is get to the pontoon in Puerto Banús.

Shall we celebrate yours at sea?

Tell us the occasion and the date. We confirm availability and a fixed quote in under 2 hours, with no obligation.

Frequently asked questions

Can the whole wedding be held on board?

The boat takes up to 10 people, so it is ideal for an intimate celebration, the photo shoot or the toast afterwards, but not for a large reception. Many couples use it as part of the day: ceremony ashore and a private celebration at sea.

How long does a wedding photo shoot need?

Two hours (€1,200) is plenty for a session in front of the Golden Mile and Puerto Banús. If you want to add swimming, a toast and the sunset, the 4-hour half day (€1,800) is more comfortable.

What is included, and what are the extras?

The rate covers the whole boat for up to 10 people and includes a professional skipper, fuel for the usual route, insurance, paddle board, snorkelling gear, light catering, water and soft drinks, a complimentary bottle of champagne and VAT. On top of that you can add special decoration (+€120), extended catering (+€180), a professional photographer or videographer (price on request) and a jet ski (+€250).

Shall we plan your day on the water?

We advise you with no obligation and confirm in under 2 hours.
