Boat rental from Málaga: the full-day escape to Marbella

Málaga has a port, a city beach and open sea in front of it. What it does not have ten minutes away are the coves: the good anchoring coast — clean water, sand bottom, few people — starts west of the city and concentrates between Cabopino and Estepona. Which is why searching for boat rental in Málaga almost always turns into a logistics decision: how much driving is it worth?

Our answer is specific: it is worth it if the plan is a full day. Our home port is Puerto Banús, about 65 km away.

Málaga to Puerto Banús: 45 minutes to an hour

From central Málaga to Puerto Banús is about 65 km. On the A-7 (Autovía del Mediterráneo) or the AP-7 toll motorway, that is between 45 minutes and an hour depending on traffic. From the airport it is a little less — around 45 minutes — because you are already pointing west.

The AP-7 is the sensible choice in July and August: the coastal A-7 clogs up and the drive can stretch out considerably. Parking is inside Puerto Banús, right by the pontoon.

If you are arriving by plane or by AVE

This is the most common case. Málaga-Costa del Sol airport and María Zambrano station are both on the west side of the city, which is the useful side: you do not have to cross Málaga to head for Marbella.

Whichever you choose, budget around 45 to 50 minutes from leaving the airport or the station to standing on the pontoon.

How does departure work?

Home port: Puerto Banús. Departure from Málaga available on request. The boat is berthed in Puerto Banús and that is where the charter starts by default. If you would rather board in Málaga, write to us with your date and we will look into it: it is something we assess case by case, not something we can take for granted in advance.

There is also another way to read the drive, and it works well for a lot of people: make it part of the plan. Come down in the morning, spend the whole day at sea and stay for dinner in Puerto Banús or Marbella before heading back. It stops being a transfer and becomes a full day out.

Why the full day is the plan that fits from Málaga

It is simple arithmetic of the day. Forty-five minutes in the car weighs heavily on a 2-hour charter and barely at all on an 8-hour one. But there is a sailing reason too: the full day is the only duration that genuinely reaches the ends of the coast with time to anchor, eat and swim without watching the clock.

A typical full day out of Banús: east along the Golden Mile and Río Real, first anchorage and swim towards Cabopino and the Artola dunes, lunch aboard, a second anchorage in the afternoon and back in the best light of the day. Or the same plan westwards, with Guadalmina and the Estepona coast. The skipper decides in the morning based on the wind.

And if you want the properly long run, the full day also covers the boat trip to Gibraltar.

Rates

DurationRealistic scopePrice
2 hoursBanús bay and the Golden Mile, or sunset. Short if you are driving from Málaga€1,200
4 hours (half day)Two or three anchorages with swimming, paddle surf and snorkelling€1,800
8 hours (full day)The one we recommend: Cabopino to Estepona, or Gibraltar€3,000

Rates are for the whole boat, for groups of up to 10 people. They include the skipper, fuel for the usual route, insurance, paddle surf, snorkelling gear, light catering, water and soft drinks, a complimentary bottle of champagne and VAT.

Split ten ways, the full day lands somewhere near what a good lunch on the Golden Mile costs — and it lasts eight hours.

The boat: one De Antonio D50 for ten people

There is no fleet to choose from: there is one boat, a 15-metre De Antonio D50 built in 2026 with 2× Mercury V12 600 hp. Which means that when you book, you already know exactly which boat you are getting, who is skippering it and what condition it is in — precisely what you do not know when you book through a listings platform.

It takes up to 10 people comfortably: swim platform aft, bow sunbed and an interior cabin. A professional skipper is included in every charter, so no passenger needs a boat licence.

If the eastern coast is closer for you

Coming from the Torremolinos or Benalmádena side the drive gets shorter and the reasoning shifts a little; we cover it in our guide to boat rental in Benalmádena. For the coast as a whole, see our guide to boat rental on the Costa del Sol.

Frequently asked questions

Do you depart from Málaga port?

Our home port is Puerto Banús, in Marbella. Departure from Málaga is available on request: send us your date and we will look at it for that day. It is not a standard departure we can treat as confirmed in advance.

How long is the drive from Málaga to Puerto Banús?

About 65 km from central Málaga: between 45 minutes and an hour depending on traffic and which road you take. From the airport it is less, around 45 minutes.

I am flying in or arriving by AVE — how do I get there?

Málaga airport and María Zambrano station are both on the western side of the city, on the same exit for the westbound motorway. From either one, a taxi or hire car puts you in Puerto Banús in about 45 to 50 minutes, with parking inside the marina.

Why do you recommend the full day from Málaga?

Because the drive weighs less the longer the charter is. Against 8 hours at sea, forty-five minutes in the car is a small part of the day; against a 2-hour charter it is not. The full day is also the only duration that genuinely reaches the ends of the coast with time to anchor.

Shall we plan your day on the water?

We advise you with no obligation and confirm in under 2 hours.
